We were very proud to join the hundreds of good folk of Andover this Sunday at the Remembrance Day 100 years commemoration at St Mary’s Church.
Loss of life in the First World War was horrific. On the first day of the battle of the Somme, July 1st 1916, over 19,000 British soldiers were killed. Its unimaginable that this could happen today. The youngest soldier to fight in WWI was Private Sidney Lewis thought to be aged just 12 and by 1918, there were 23,000 nurses working on the front line.
We gave thanks for the courage and sacrifice of all the brave souls who have fought and died in the service of Great Britain and of humanity.
‘They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.’
